For the moments worth looking up

About Spotter Skies

Helping you make sense of what’s happening around your favourite military airfields.

Hi, I’m Lee

I’m a geek with a brain that never quite switches off. Once an idea gets stuck in my head, I tend to need to see it through. Spotter Skies is one of those ideas.

There’s useful information out there for aircraft spotters, but making sense of it can take far too much digging. I wanted to bring it together, make it easier to understand and help people find the things they might otherwise miss.

A weekend idea that took flight

I enjoy watching Typhoons, and I wanted a little development project to keep me busy over a weekend. So I put those two things together, and here it is.

Spotter Skies is free to use. The people, businesses and groups featured here are unpaid recommendations: friends, people whose work I value, and those who help the spotting community.

A bit of background

I’ve spent more than 20 years working with data, systems and digital projects, from building solutions to improving websites and the way people use them. These days I run DigitalEmber, working across websites, digital services and practical uses of AI.

Spotter Skies brings those skills together in a project built around curiosity, clear information and making something useful.

Help shape it

We highlight potential key events, organise the notices we find and add weather, favourites and alerts to support your spotting. There’s always room to make it better — especially when you spot something we’ve missed.
